An international NGO known as Alive and Thrive through its Surulere team advocates for exclusive breastfeeding of babies for 6 months in Surulere Local Government.
It was reported that effort is being made to ensure that parents, especially mothers, are well informed about the importance and health benefit of breastfeeding exclusively for 6 months in order to have healthy children
Hon. Kolawole Oyewole (Supervisor for Health, Surulere LG) has been making effort to ensure that the advocacy reaches the parents in Surulere and the society at large. This is in line with the fact that breastfeeding reduces the risk of having asthma and allergies. Also, babies who are breastfed exclusively for the first 6 months without any formula, have fewer ear infections, respiratory illness and bouts of diarrhea.
The Surulere team of Alive and Thrive organization comprises of Hon. Kolawole Oyewole (Supervisor for Health, Surulere LG), Chief Karimu Awoyemi, Chief (Mrs) Islamiyat Ajala, Reverend Isaac Ogundiran, Pastor Kayode (CAN), Miss Patience, Dr. Odufuwa (M.O.H Surulere LG), Dr. Odesesan (M.O.H Itire-Ikate LCDA), Dr. Owolabi, Mrs. Ogunyemi, Mrs. Ijeoma Olatunbosun.
