SURULERE CONSTITUENCY 1 KICKS OUT MALARIA
The leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Desmond Olusola Elliot presents a programme with the Theme: “KICK MALARIA OUT OF SURULERE CONSTITUENCY 1”. The programme commenced yesterday 14th of December, 2018 but full operation commences today 15th of December, 2018. It involves visitation of houses in Surulere Constituency 1. The Project Director is Mr. Segun Benson while the Project Coordinator is Miss Opeyemi Ayenua.
The information gotten from Leregist source read thus:
“Most of the 1-3 million who die each year from malaria are children, especially in Lagos which is hyper-endemic for malaria. In older children, malaria has a similar course as in adults. However, in children below the age of 5 years, particularly infants, the disease tends to be atypical and more severe. In the first two months of life, children may not contract malaria or the manifestations may be mild with low-grade parasitemia, due to the passive immunity offered by the maternal antibodies.

In endemic and hyper-endemic areas, the parasite rate increases with age from 0 to 10% during first three months of life to 80 to 90% by one year of age and the rate persists at a high level during early childhood. The mortality rate is highest during the first two years of life. By school age, a considerable degree of immunity would have developed and asymptomatic parasitemia can be as high as 75% in primary school children. In Africa, on an average about 1 in 20 children die from malaria, and in worst affected areas, even 1 in 5 or 6 die from malaria and its related.
Malaria remains a major public health problem in Surulere. Changes in prevalence can be attributed to three major control interventions: Insecticide, treated nets, indoor and outdoor residual spraying.

With reference to the above subject matter, our distinguished Honourables; Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and Hon. Desmond Olusola Elliot has took it upon themselves to ensure our environment is free of disease caused by plasmodium parasites. There will be a door – door, outdoor residual spraying for the control of mosquitoes within Surulere Constituency 1. We implore everybody to as well Endeavour to carry out environmental sanitation to enhance efficacy of the spraying.”
